The SAT is a globally recognized test for admission to various universities and colleges in the United States, Canada, Australia, Finland, Singapore, India, and other countries. It is administered by the College Board. SAT exam evaluates the college readiness of the student. The test is primarily for high school students who wish to pursue a college degree at one of the SAT’s partner institutions. The SAT is often taken by students in their junior and senior years of high school (classes 11th and 12th).

The SAT scores show a student’s college preparation. In many places around the world, the SAT test is needed by numerous schools for undergraduate education.

Since its inception in 1926, the SAT has experienced numerous changes in terms of its name, test structure, and syllabus. The current version of the SAT was developed in the year 2016 in order to align the exam with the work that high school students do in a better way.

Different Sections of SAT

Reading is the first section of the SAT exam. Complex reading passages, thinking skills, and critical reading are all included in this part. This test also includes the best evidence questions, this helps students to support their responses for the questions by looking at the language in the passages. The writing and language are the next section. The majority of the questions in this part will be focused on both content and vocabulary. After the SAT’s reformatting in March 2016, vocabulary testing has been less difficult than in previous years.

For the SAT Math section, a strong knowledge of algebra is required. Geometry formulas are also included in the test. Calculators are only allowed to be used for the second Math test, and none of the questions are multiple choice. Because there are two Math section in the exam, their scores account for half of the total SAT score. The SAT does not have any science parts. However, questions in other sections examine a student’s knowledge of topics such as charts, graphs, and tables.

Duration of the SAT exam

An SAT is usually three hours long, with a normal duration of 180 minutes. It will take about four hours if the optional Essay is included. Before the writing and language tests, there will be a ten-minute break, and after the first Math test, there will be a five-minute break.

  • Reading comprehension: 65 minutes
  • Math without calculator : 25 minutes
  • Math with calculator: 55 minutes
  • Writing and Language : 35 minutes

Number of Questions in SAT exam

There are 154 questions in the SAT exam.

  • Reading section: 52
  • Writing and Language section: 44
  • Math Section (without a calculator): 20
  • Math Section (with a calculator): 38

Preferable SAT Score

SAT scores vary from 400 to 1600. The average SAT score in 2021 was 1060, while the average SAT score in 2020 was 1051. According to the College Board’s most recent score report, just 8% of SAT participants got over 1400 points, with the remaining 12 percent scoring between 600 and 790 points. The lowest SAT score was 590.

Eligibility Criteria for SAT 2022 

Age Requirements: There is no minimum or maximum age requirement to take the SAT Exam. If you are currently in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, you can take this exam. 

Educational Requirements: There are no specific regulations for this exam in terms of stream or educational background. 

SAT Exam Attempts: You can take the SAT Exam as many times as you like during the year. Because the SAT is given five times a year, a student may choose to retake the test if he or she wants to improve their score. 

Limits on Attempts: There are no restrictions on how many times you can take the SAT Exam.

Criteria for Nationality Candidates from any country can appear for the SAT Exam.
Age Requirements Candidate should be 13+ years old.
Provision for Persons With Disability Yes, Subject to Approval by the College Board.
Documents Required Govt. Issued ID & Passport.
Educational Eligibility Students from any stream can appear for the SAT Exam.

 Preparation Tips for SAT 2022

  • Understanding the SAT – Candidates should have a good understanding of the format and sorts of questions that will appear on the SAT 2022.
  • Grasp Concepts- Candidates should ensure that they have a firm knowledge and understanding of the subject areas assessed by the SAT. This can be accomplished by studying and revising the concepts taught in school on a regular basis.
  • Candidates should solve practice problems and mock test while considering the time limits to get a sense of what to exp ect on test day. Practice will also enable students to identify areas that require additional preparation.
  • Establish a Schedule – In order to achieve a good SAT score, candidates must maintain a schedule for SAT 2022 preparation in order to assure consistent study and practice.
